I bought this bag at a sale price of $79, and I believe it is the best I could buy for that amount. I believe it sells for $109.
It looks beautiful, people made nice comments. It is not boxy. It looks somehow like an hybrid between a camera bag and some messenger style bag.
It is very roomy. I can fit a DSLR, large normal 2.8 zoom, a small 70-210 zoom, flash, cable, cleaning kit (in the space on the side between the proper camera compartment and the bag itself), another wide angle and some wireless flash controllers.
There is a pocket on the hip side for magazines or stuff like sheets, notepads, passport, And there is a compartment in the front where i can put portable hard drives, Macbook charger and some other stuff. Plenty of room also for bounce cards, memory cards.
There is a not readily flap that can cover the camera compartment and some thin stuff can be put there.
the 2 pockets in the front are zippered and can be useful for stuff like lens caps, filters, spare battery, memory card, metro card, train ticket etc. they are not big but yet useful.
The back side of the bag as some nice backpack style mesh, and the zippers seem good quality.
The camera and lenses can be accessed by opening a top side zipper rather than just opening the 2 buckles. It is a great idea and allows to change or stow away lenses without putting the bag on the ground or on a table. The top zipper is also protected by a flap.
What I did not like:
- The well cushioned strap is definitely too long. I am 6ft tall, long torso and the bag stays well below the hip even when the strap is shortened all the way.
This makes it really hard to wear the bag while riding a road bicycle, even if it is non slip fabric the bag may slip during a curve or if on a bumpy road.
I want to write to Tenba and ask them if they could provide a shorter strap.
- the flap that closes the bag should be wider as there is a little gap on the sides where water may enter in extremely rainy conditions. it comes with no rain cover, but a wider flap and a piece of velcro could have made the bag more rain proof.
- if it was a bit more expandable I could also added a book.
In conclusion, it is a great bag, looks great, it can store a lot of stuff, and there are MOLLE stile straps on the side that allow to attach pouches (although I wish it could have featured one or 2 mesh pockets). It also feels strong and resistant, great stitching and zippers.
I wish it had a shorter strap and would be more sealed on the sides in case of rain
If the bag is full, including computer and extras, after some hours the bag feels heavy, even with the great padding of the strap. That is not the bag fault. I am also shopping for a backpack for when I have to carry my gear on a bicycle or I have to walk a lot. Most backpacks do not allow easy and fast access to the camera, flash and lenses as this bag. So like in most aspects of life there is a trade off. Probably without the computer, hard drives, charger it would not feel too heavy for a day shoot.
But I dream that Tenba could update this bag with 4 buckles and clip on straps on the back and to make it convertible into a backpack for when someone has to hike and does not need immediate access to the content of the bag. That would be the best of both worlds. Close
